SOCRATES IS THE ONLY SITE IN THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN AREA SPECIFICALLY DEDICATED TO PROVIDING ARTISTS WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE AND EXHIBIT LARGE-SCALE SCULPTURE AND MULTI-MEDIA INSTALLATIONS IN A UNIQUE OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT THAT INVITES INTERACTION BETWEEN ARTISTS, ARTWORKS AND THE PUBLIC. THE PARK'S EXISTENCE IS BASED ON THE BELIEF THAT RECLAMATION, REVITALIZATION AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL, HUMANITY AND IMPROVEMENT OF OUR URBAN ENVIRONMENT.OPEN FREE OF CHARGE, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, SOCRATES IS AN EXEMPLARY MODEL OF URBAN RENEWAL THAT SERVES AS AN INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED CULTURAL VENUE, AS WELL AS A SOURCE OF LOCAL COMMUNITY PRIDE. IN ADDITION TO VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMMING, SOCRATES PRESENTS FREE ART MAKING WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN; FITNESS CLASSES; AND NUMEROUS MULTICULTURAL MUSIC, DANCE, AND THEATRICAL PRESENTATIONS.
