Colene Smith Wong, co-founder of the foundation, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at age 98. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Honolulu after earning her nursing degree from the University of Michigan. She served as Assistant Director of Nursing at the Hawaii Territorial Hospital in Kaneohe before meeting and marrying Henry H. Wong in 1957. After retiring from nursing, she owned and managed Coco's Travel in Kailua until the business was sold in 1987, after which she devoted herself to supporting her husband's philanthropic work.

The foundation's legacy continues through its support of major beneficiaries including Kalihi YMCA and Palama Settlement, among other organizations serving vulnerable populations in Hawaii and beyond.
