Harlem Grown’s website describes its mission as inspiring youth to lead healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition. It says it has operated local urban farms since 2011 and currently has 14 urban agriculture facilities, including soil-based farms, hydroponic greenhouses, and school gardens. The organization’s 2024 filing describes additional support for college-aged program participants: Harlem Grown pays tuition directly to schools and purchases requested supplies after reviewing participants’ wish lists. This is support for its own participants, not an outside grant program.

In 2024, Harlem Grown’s grants supported a range of local arts, culture, wellness, literacy, and community activities. For example, Jazzmobile described its mission as presenting, preserving, promoting, and propagating jazz through performance and education. New Heritage Theatre Group said its mission is to present quality theatre and preserve classic works by Black artists. The National Jazz Museum in Harlem described its mission as preserving, promoting, and presenting jazz. Uptown Grand Central said it works to transform East 125th Street into a thriving corridor through local collaborations. Brooklyn Arts Exchange described itself as a multigenerational arts organization nurturing creative expression through education, residencies, and performance at the intersection of arts and social justice.
