Mission & Focus Areas
Mission Statement: Community Council of Greater Dallas provides leadership in moving individuals and families from surviving to thriving. We improve quality of life by alleviating poverty, fostering independence and wellness and connecting people to the resources they need.
Primary Program Areas:
Aging and Disability Services: The Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), sponsored by the Community Council since its creation in 1973, provides services to Dallas County residents age 60 and older. Services focus on low-income older adults, those with frail health, physical or mental disabilities, language barriers, or at risk for institutionalized care.
Information, Referral, and Assistance: 2-1-1 Texas delivers free access to information and referrals to health and human services agencies, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, disaster relief resources, and volunteer opportunities. The Dallas 2-1-1 helpline maintains a comprehensive community resource database of services providing assistance with health care, employment, and educational needs.
The organization's research and action plans have historically resulted in the incubation and establishment of numerous social services, including the Dallas Family Court, Dallas County Juvenile Department, Dallas Community Action Agency, Greater Dallas Community Relations Commission, Head Start of Greater Dallas, and others.
