Writers Alliance Grants

The Writers Alliance Grants provide $5,000 to a writer and $5,000 towards a nonprofit theater's production of that writer's new work. These grants celebrate working relationships between writers and theaters that align with DGF core values.

Purpose: To ensure writers' contributions to theater are respected and to change the national conversation about how writers are treated by institutions that produce their work.

Geographic Scope: National (United States)

Eligibility:

• Writers whose work pushes boundaries and shows tremendous promise
• Nonprofit theaters demonstrating superlative ethical standards in supporting writers' livelihoods and careers
• Strong contracts that treat writers well

What They Fund:

• Productions of new theatrical work by emerging writers
• Direct support to both writers and producing theaters
• Work that demonstrates artistic merit and theatrical innovation

Selection Criteria:

• Strength of contracts between writer and theater
• Artistic merit of the project
• Organization's commitment to production of new works and voices
