Application Process

Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by October 15th

Required Materials:
1. Completed application form
2. One letter of recommendation from an instructor or professor in the nursing program in which applicant is currently enrolled
3. Essay (required)
4. Official sealed transcript from current nursing program

Essay Requirements:

Describe applicant's original and personal expression of reasons for selecting a career in nursing

Explain what applicant foresees as their contribution to the future of the nursing profession

Use of AI is prohibited in writing essay due to concerns about authenticity, ethics, fairness, and bias

Grammar and spellcheck tools are allowed

Applicant remains solely responsible for ensuring originality and integrity of essay

Review and Selection Process:

Scholarship Committee reviews candidates' applications

Selection based on: academic performance, scholastic achievement, original essay, health-related community service

Interviews may be required if committee deems necessary

Award presented at WDMS Fall District Meeting

Date entered nursing program

Expected graduation date

Academic achievements (honors, grants, scholarships, publications, special projects)

Special or personal circumstances

Health-related community service description

Instructor reference information

Consent to print name and photograph on website, newsletter, and local newspaper
