WCSJ International Program Fund - Travel Fellowships

Focus: Support for international science journalists to attend conferences and participate in training programs, funded from cost savings of 10th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2017).

Geographic Scope: International, with particular focus on Latin America, Caribbean, and developing countries

Eligibility:

  • Science journalists from countries outside United States

  • Early-career and established journalists

  • Interest in science journalism and professional development

  • Funding Source: Budget savings from WCSJ2017 conference (October 2017, San Francisco)

  • Total Awarded 2018: 12 regional travel fellowships to Latin American journalists

  • Purpose: Enable international participation in ScienceWriters conferences and related training

  • Conference registration and travel to ScienceWriters conferences

  • New Horizons in Science briefings

  • Professional development workshops by NASW

  • Bilingual preconference sessions (story-pitching for freelancers)

  • Special topic sessions organized by fellows
