Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) Scholarships

Overview: The Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) is an annual event organized by the National FFA Organization in the United States. It's designed to provide FFA members with a unique leadership development experience in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. The Kansas FFA Association takes a group of members each June.

Purpose: Financial assistance to help Kansas FFA members attend the WLC in Washington, D.C.

Cost of Experience: Approximately $1,000

Geographic Scope: Kansas FFA members

Funding Source: Financial assistance is made possible through generous supporters of the Kansas FFA Foundation and the Kansas FFA Alumni and Supporters through funds raised through the annual Blue and Gold Golf Scramble in August of each year.

Key Features and Aspects of WLC:

  • Leadership Workshops: Interactive and experiential workshops focused on communication skills, personal growth, team dynamics, goal setting, and problem-solving

  • Civic Engagement: Participants learn about the importance of civic engagement, understanding the political process, and the role of advocacy

  • Networking: Opportunity for FFA members from across the country to connect with one another and form lasting friendships

  • Community Service: Participants engage in service projects that address real-world challenges

  • Personal Growth: Reflection on personal strengths and areas for improvement through self-assessment and goal setting

  • Capitol Hill Day: Participants visit the offices of their congressional representatives to discuss agricultural issues and advocate for positive change

  • November 15th: Applications due to State FFA Office

  • January: WLC Scholarship Recipients notified

    Application Process

    Steps:
    1. Watch for application window to open in October (announced via Kansas FFA Today Weekly Newsletter and social media)
    2. FFA Advisors distribute and collect applications
    3. Complete the Kansas FFA WLC Scholarship Application
    4. Submit applications to the State FFA Office by November 15th
    5. Scholarship recipients are notified in January
