Overview: The VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to Virginia high school seniors with an interest in golf. The Foundation distributes grants and gifts for scholarships, scientific and educational research, and other charitable purposes.

Geographic Scope: Virginia

Eligibility:

Virginia high school seniors with an interest in golf

Selection based on:

- Academic achievement
- Character
- Community involvement
- Essay on the impact of golf on the applicant's life

Award Information:

2025: 49 total scholars honored (45 high school seniors + 4 graduate students in turfgrass research)

Total 2025 grants: $196,500

Individual awards: $7,500-$10,000

Record: Since launch, program has distributed nearly $3.2 million to 1,252 students

Named Awards:

C. Dan Keffer Award ($10,000): Named for former VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation Committee Chairman (25th year in 2025)

Spencer-Wilkinson Award: For young women; 59 recipients since formation over 20 years ago

Red Speigle Award: Named for longtime Peninsula teaching professional

David A. King Award: Established by senior amateur golfer in 2002

Richard Smith Award: In remembrance of VSGA's longtime director of championships and junior golf supporter

Mike Wise Award: Named for late Roanoke Valley philanthropist with First Tee ties (introduced 2023)

VSGA Military Scholarship: For dependents of active-duty or retired military members (first awarded 2024)

Benny Wang Trust Award: New for 2026, named after Michigan State alum; honors junior golfer embodying passion for golf and spreading joy of the game

Funding Source: Primarily from sale of VSGA VIP Golf Card
