UFLAC Fire Foundation Grants and Scholarships

Funder: United Firefighters of Los Angeles City Fire Foundation (UFLACFF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization created by IAFF Local 112

Award Distribution: Twice per year (mid-year and December distributions)

  • Two – $2,000 grants/scholarships

  • Four – $1,000 grants/scholarships

  • Four – $500 grants/scholarships
  • Eligibility Requirements

    • Applicant must be an active firefighter or dependent of an active firefighter
    • Must be seeking to further their education
    • May need assistance with tuition, books, materials, trade-specific tools or equipment, internet access, etc.
    • An active firefighter or their immediate family member is eligible for an Award Grant once every 12-month period
    • Award amounts based on specific needs of each applicant

    Awards Distribution

    • Awards announced in July and December
    • Awards made directly to applicant if over age 18, or to parents/guardians of a minor child

    Funding made possible by UFLACFF donations from supporters of UFLACFF and UFLAC Local 112, designated specifically to support these opportunities for firefighters and their immediate families.

    1. Completed Application Form (online or PDF)
    2. JPEG Photo - for foundation files and use in Foundation-related materials
    3. Essay (500 word maximum, typed or written and clearly legible)
    - Written by applicant or parent/guardian
    - Must include:
    - How the award will benefit the applicant's life
    - How they will serve others in the future
    - Their area of study
    - Last grade completed
    - School of choice for higher education purposes
    4. Biography (2 page maximum)

    Selection Criteria

    • Applications evaluated by UFLACFF Awards Committee (comprised of Foundation Board Members, active firefighters who are non-Board members, and UFLACFF Advisory Committee)
    • Applicant name and personal identifying information will be redacted prior to review by the committee
    • Awards granted based on information provided by applicant and specific financial needs

  • May 31 for July distribution

  • November 1 for December distribution
