The ASCAP Foundation
The ASCAP Foundation Pride in Music Scholarship is a new initiative to benefit undergraduate or graduate students within the LGBTQIA+ community looking to pursue a career in music. This scholarship is designed to promote tolerance and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community and to support music creators in expressing their individuality, creativity and experiences through music.

About
The ASCAP Foundation ‘Tu Musica’ Scholarship provides financial assistance for undergraduate or graduate students of Latin descent who are looking to pursue a career in songwriting.
Criteria
Submissions will be judged anonymously by an independent committee comprised of industry professionals in Latin music selected by the Foundation in its sole discretion, based on the following criteria:
* Overall quality and craft of the works/performance; and,
* Ability to demonstrate proficiency in songwriting, composing or performing of Latin music.
Prize
Two students will be selected as the Scholarship Recipients and will receive a monetary prize of $2,500.00 U.S.D each to be used towards school tuition.
Eligibility

* To be eligible for consideration for the Scholarship, an entrant must be, as of the expiration of the Application Period, either:
* an ASCAP writer member in good standing or
* a writer who is not affiliated with any performing rights or collective rights management organization.
* For a writer member of ASCAP to be in good standing, such writer must have been elected to membership in ASCAP, be eligible to vote at General Meetings of ASCAP, and have not either:
* resigned from membership or
* delivered an effective notice of intent to resign from membership.
* Entrants must also be, at the time of entry:
* An undergraduate or graduate student of Latin descent enrolled at a college or university in the U.S.
* a U.S. citizen (including Puerto Rico), U.S. permanent resident or enrolled student with a valid and current U.S. student visa and
* at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in the state or country of residence, whichever is older.
* Further, Entrants must not be currently signed to a “major” publishing, record or administrative deal, as determined by the Foundation in its sole discretion.
* If the song submitted as part of the Submission is co-written, all co writers shall be considered Entrants and must satisfy these eligibility criteria, together with all other requirements set forth in the Rules.
* Submission Requirements
* To be considered for the Scholarship, eligible Entrants must upload and submit the following:
* an .mp3 file containing the song that the Entrant wishes to be considered for the Scholarship, ensuring all metadata (file data that identify the songwriter(s)) is removed from the file before sending (lyrics must be predominantly in Spanish);
* a PDF lyric sheet for such song without the songwriter’s name. The song title should be listed at the top and stanzas should be labeled with verse, chorus, bridge and so forth. Lines should be numbered.
* a completed online application form
* a brief explanation of why the Entrant is applying for this scholarship and including a description of the Entrant’s ties to the Latin culture along with a brief bio;
* a school letter verifying enrollment.
Ineligibility
* Void where prohibited by law and outside the fifty (50) United States and District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
* Judges of the Award or anyone involved in the Judging Procedure as set forth in the Award Requirements are not permitted to enter or win the Award.
* Employees, officers and directors of the Foundation, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and any affiliated company, organization or entity, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to participate in the Award.
* For purpose of the foregoing, “immediate family” means parents, spouses, children, siblings or any members of the same households of such employees, officers and directors.
