Travel and Dependent Care Grants

The Travel and Dependent Care Grants, offered by the Shakespeare Association of America (SAA), provide financial support for conference travel and caregiving expenses. Awardees can receive up to $500 to cover travel costs and registration fees, along with additional funds for dependent care. These grants aim to assist contingent faculty, independent scholars, retirees, and graduate students facing financial hardship due to the pandemic or other funding challenges. The program encourages full participation in SAA conferences.

The Shakespeare Association of America (SAA) is a non-profit professional organization for the advanced academic study of William Shakespeare’s plays and poems, his cultural and theatrical contexts, and the many roles these have played in world culture.
Awardees receive travel support of $500 and remission of the conference registration fee.
The SAA also offers dependent care grants. Applicants with caregiving responsibilities may request to be considered for additional grant funds to subsidize the cost of care during conference travel (e.g., special arrangements for child or eldercare whether at the conference venue, at home, or elsewhere, additional airfare or accommodation for dependents or caregivers). Awardees may receive up to $500 of additional support.

Eligibility

Applicants must play a role in the meeting program (by speaking in a panel, leading a seminar or workshop, or enrolling in a seminar or workshop); and participate fully in the conference.
