Overview

Transforming Safety Initiative Community Grants Program

Geographic Scope: Southeast Colorado Springs, El Paso County, and Teller County

Background:
Established in 2017 through House Bill 17-1326, the Transforming Safety Initiative represents a new approach to public safety that invests in strategies strengthening communities to prevent crime. The bill reinvests $4 million annually in savings from parole reforms to fund a three-year pilot program. PPCF was selected to facilitate the local planning process and manage the grant program for Southeast Colorado Springs.

Purpose: Reduce crime and prevent recidivism in Southeast Colorado Springs

Funding Focus Areas:

  • Support adults and youth who are or have been involved in the criminal justice system to reduce recidivism or incidence of reoffending

  • Improve community-based supports to reduce violence and neglect in families

  • Help youth (up to age 25) develop skills and resilience to avoid, reduce, or stop high-risk behaviors that can lead to criminal justice system involvement

  • Address systemic causes of economic, racial, and academic disparities
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Qualified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations serving El Paso or Teller Counties

  • Schools or religious institutions

  • Must serve Southeast Colorado Springs (as defined by the Local Planning Team)
