Trailblazers Leadership Program (TLP)
The Trailblazers Leadership Program (TLP), a project of the Minnesota Private College Fund. TLP was established with the mission of addressing the disparities in four-year graduation rates among Black men in higher education.
TLP’s mission is clear - to empower black male students to:
* Excel academically,
* Develop leadership skills,
* Graduate successfully in four years, and
* Transition into meaningful careers upon graduation.
This two-year program provides students with opportunities for leadership development, academic support, personal growth, job preparation, financial literacy, and networking with and learning from Black professionals across the Twin Cities.
The Trailblazers Leadership Program offers unique support for groups of men attending private colleges, integrating scholarships with a set of impactful personal development opportunities. The aim is to help participants graduate ready to launch their post-baccalaureate careers. More than 140 students from 10 private colleges have taken part since 2015.
Programming starts over the summer before their junior years when the men come together in small cohorts. They complete an extensive leadership course, for which they earn credit. And during the next two years their experiences include being mentored, building meaningful connections with their peers and more. The men find support — and actively contribute to each other’s growth.
This is a program that centers the Black experience. Participants benefit from meaningful mentorship from Black men, in staffing and from the community.
