Toward EXcellence Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant

Funder: State of Texas / Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)

Geographic Scope: Texas residents only

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students

  • Texas resident

  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA or TASFA

  • Meet academic eligibility requirements as determined by THECB

  • Have FAFSA or TASFA on file

  • Admitted to UT San Antonio by financial aid priority deadline (January 15)

  • Additional extensive eligibility requirements available at College for All Texans website
  • Renewal Eligibility:

  • Potentially renewable award based on academic progress

  • Offered until funds are exhausted and subject to state funding availability

  • Maximum of 150 semester credit hours until bachelor's degree or 5 years (4-year program) or 6 years (5-year program), whichever comes first
  • First Year Renewal Requirements:

  • Apply for FAFSA or TASFA by February 15 for next academic year

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on 4.0 scale

  • Complete at least 67% of hours attempted

  • No felony conviction or drug-related crime (unless 2+ years since restitution)

  • Enroll at least three-quarter time
  • Second Year and Beyond Renewal Requirements:

  • Apply for FAFSA or TASFA by February 15 for next academic year

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on 4.0 scale

  • Complete at least 24 hours per year

  • No felony conviction or drug-related crime (unless 2+ years since restitution)

  • Enroll at least three-quarter time
  • Transfer Students:

  • If received TEXAS Grant or TEOG at another institution, submit Renewal Texas Grant Transfer Form

  • Forms reviewed when state database updated (typically November each year)
  • Hardship Appeal Option:

  • Available for students failing to meet renewal requirements due to extenuating circumstances

  • Must have been prior recipient of TEXAS Grant

  • Limited eligibility restrictions apply

  • Reviewed after census date of current term
  • Eligible Hardship Circumstances:

  • Graduating at semester end with fewer than 9 hours

  • Severe illness or debilitating condition affecting academic performance

  • Responsible for care of sick, injured, or needy person affecting academic performance

  • Other extraordinary circumstances (e.g., professional internship)
  • Program Details:

  • Gift funds that do not require repayment

  • Based on financial need

  • Offered until funds exhausted

    2. Be Admitted to UT San Antonio
    - Must be admitted by financial aid priority deadline (January 15)

    3. Review Eligibility Requirements
    - Review extensive eligibility requirements at College for All Texans website

    4. For Renewal (Subsequent Years)
    - Apply for FAFSA or TASFA by February 15 for next academic year
    - Maintain GPA and completion rate requirements
    - Maintain at least three-quarter time enrollment

    5. For Hardship Appeal (if eligible)
    - Submit Texas Grant Hardship Appeal Form
    - Include Personal Statement (typed letter explaining extenuating circumstances)
    - Attach supporting documentation (hospital records, doctor's statements, death certificates, obituaries, police reports, counselor/social worker documents, etc.)
    - Submit form via Document Uploader or in person
    - Appeals reviewed after census date of current term
