TMRF Environmental Award

Funder: Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation (TMRF)

Award Amount: Up to $100,000 total, paid at $25,000 per year for four years

Geographic Scope:

  • Residents of Truckee, unincorporated Placer County around Truckee, and/or North Lake Tahoe (California side only)

  • OR students attending high schools within the TTUSD boundary
  • Eligible High Schools:

  • Truckee High

  • North Tahoe High

  • Forest Charter High

  • Sierra Continuation High School

  • Cold Stream Alternative

  • Sugar Bowl Academy

  • Tahoe Expedition Academy
  • Focus Areas:

  • Combatting climate change

  • Improving conditions for humanity
  • Award Criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or clear vision around ability to significantly improve climate and/or human condition

  • Academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.5)

  • Extra-curricular activities, environmental interests, and volunteer efforts

  • Financial need and vocational interest (considered, but award may be based on merit as well as need)

  • Individual interviews (required for finalists)
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a graduating high school senior

  • Must have minimum GPA of 3.5

  • Must be attending a 2- or 4-year institution in Fall 2025 (or applicable year) in pursuit of a degree or vocational certificate

  • Residency in Truckee, unincorporated Placer County around Truckee, North Lake Tahoe (CA side), OR attendance at TTUSD boundary high school
  • Selection Process:

  • Applications reviewed by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Finalists selected and notified

  • Individual interviews conducted with all finalists

  • Final selection made based on above criteria

    Application Process

    Timeline:

  • Applications due annually in the Spring

  • Finalists selected by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Individual interviews required for all finalists

  • Award winners announced in Spring
  • Application Method:
    Students must apply through the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) consolidated application process.

    Important Note: Students MUST check "climate change" and/or "the human condition" on the application to be considered for the TMRF Environmental Award.

    Required Materials:

  • Completed online application through TTCF portal

  • Academic records (GPA verification)

  • Evidence of extra-curricular activities and volunteer efforts
  • Finalists:

  • Will be contacted for individual interviews

  • Will receive additional interview preparation information
  • Payment:

  • Proof of enrollment required annually

  • Payment can go directly to recipient or school (family preference or school requirement)

  • If winner unable to accept full award, remaining funds allocated to runners-up
