The Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation Grant

The Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations focused on ending hunger and reducing food waste. Since its inception, the foundation has allocated over $59 million to enhance food security through innovative programs and community engagement. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits addressing critical needs such as food access, nutrition education, and support for vulnerable populations. This initiative aims to create equitable food systems and ensure that no one goes hungry.

NOTE: If this description applies to your organization, we encourage you to apply for a grant here. Nonprofit organizations may submit an online request any time during the year. All applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Since 2018, the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation has directed more than $59 million to organizations, innovators and changemakers across the country to address a fundamental absurdity in our food system: 38% of all food in the U.S. is unsold or uneaten,1 yet 34 million Americans struggle with hunger.

The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation exists to support nonprofit organizations, social entrepreneurs and creative thinkers who are focused on improving food security, ending food waste and more.

Since 2018, the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation has directed more than $59 million to organizations that are aligned with our mission to create communities free of hunger and waste.
We support nonprofits, innovators and community-based organizations that help:

• Meet critical transportation needs for food banks and partner agencies.
• Operate mobile pantry programs to improve food access in underserved communities.
• Increase access to, and enrollment in, SNAP benefits.
• Provide breakfast after the bell for students at school.
• Serve homeless men and women who want to gain skills, stabilize their lives and find permanent housing.
• Improve nutrition education and access to healthier foods.

Eligibility

We support nonprofits and community organizations aligned with our mission to create communities free of hunger and waste.We verify all 501(c)(3) nonprofits through the Guidestar Charity Check, to confirm they meet all IRS requirements to receive grants and donations.

Ineligibility

Political campaigns,
Sectarian or religious organizations for projects that serve only its own members or supporters; andOrganizations that discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, age, mental or physical ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and/or expression.
