The Whitney Family Endowed California Scholarship

Purpose: Given to a pharmacy student showing commitment to independent community practice in California after graduation. Presented annually at a Fall Alpha Psi Alumni-Active event.

    Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an Alpha Psi full-time student in good academic standing
  • Must demonstrate potential to be involved in independent pharmacy operations (compounding pharmacy), long-term care pharmacy and consulting, and pharmacy advocacy
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be a native-born California resident
  • Must have respect of peers
  • Requires personal statement (not to exceed 500 words) that demonstrates commitment to independent community practice and identifies candidate's birthplace in California

Selection Process

1. A vote of all members of the Board of Directors of the APES&L Foundation is required to select the recipient 2. The scholarship is presented at an awards ceremony recognized by the School of Pharmacy and the Alpha Psi Chapter of Phi Delta Chi

How to Apply

Application Process

Timeline:

  • April 1st: Application period opens

  • May: Faculty/Staff Awards committee reviews applicants

  • July: Scholarship awards ceremony (luncheon)

  • August: Scholarship funds applied to student accounts (1/3 at fall semester, 1/3 at spring semester, 1/3 at summer semester)
  • Required Materials

    1. Personal Statement - Not to exceed 500 words demonstrating: - Commitment to practice independent community pharmacy as described in the scholarship - Candidate's birthplace in California 2. Submit through Academic Works software program

      Selection Criteria

    • Board of Directors vote (all members required)
    • Evaluation of demonstrated potential for independent pharmacy operations
    • Academic standing (GPA requirement: 3.0 or higher)
    • Financial need demonstration
    • Community/peer respect
