Overview

Western History Association The Western History Association strives to be a congenial home for the study and teaching of all aspects of North American Wests, frontiers, homelands, and borderlands. Our mission is to cultivate the broadest appreciation of this diverse history. To accomplish this mission we: Enable collaborations among peoples, institutions, and organizations devoted to the study of western history. Conduct an annual conference at which western history teachers, scholars, and professionals share their research and exchange ideas that facilitate further study of the North American West. Publish an award-winning journal that employs rigorous peer reviews to identify, improve, and distribute original western history scholarship.Promote public education on western history through active involvement with teachers, museums, non profit organizations, libraries, and other venues. The Western History Association/Huntington Library Martin Ridge Fellowship In recognition of Martin Ridge's long service to both the Western History Association and The Huntington Library, this $3500, one-month research fellowship at The Huntington Library has been established in his honor. Funds are allotted as follows: $500 from the WHA and $3000 from The Huntington Library. Recipients of the fellowship are expected to be in continuous residence at The Huntington Library for one month. The committee will accept a variety of topics in western history, but applicants are encouraged to submit projects that consider how they will use specific materials and collections from The Huntington Library's holdings.

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. Eligible applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent or be a doctoral student at the dissertation stage. The majority of Huntington fellowships—short- and long-term—are open to scholars of any nationality.  International scholars awarded a short- or long-term fellowship will need to apply for a J-1 visa.
