The Dr. Thomas E. Deal Scholarship Fund Grant

The Dr. Thomas E. Deal Scholarship Fund, managed by the Coral Gables Community Foundation, offers $20,000 in four-year college tuition assistance to a graduating senior from Coral Gables Senior High School pursuing a career in medicine. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship aims to support deserving students in their educational journey, ensuring they maintain a 3.0 GPA to receive ongoing funding throughout their college years.

About the Scholarships Program
Coral Gables Community Foundation is honored to partner with our fundholders to administer generous scholarships as well as manage the Foundation’s own scholarship funds.
The Foundation and its fundholders have proudly awarded over $6.7 million in scholarships in just the last decade. Most scholarships offered through the Foundation’s scholarship program are based on academic achievement and financial need.
The Dr. Thomas E. Deal Scholarship provides four-year college tuition assistance to a graduating senior from Coral Gables Senior High School who plans to pursue a career in medicine. It was established by his daughter Sarah and her husband, Steven, a fellow Gables graduate, to support educational opportunities for deserving high school graduates planning to pursue a career in medicine.
Value
The value of this four-year scholarship is $20,000 over the course of 4 years. The scholarship is distributed in $5,000 installments per year for 4 years. Checks are sent directly from the Dr. Deal Scholarship Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation to the bursar’s office of the recipient’s college or university.
Maintenance
In order to maintain the scholarship installment payments, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout his/her college studies and send transcripts to the Foundation upon completion of each academic year.

Eligibility

Must intend to study and pursue a career in medicine
However not contingent upon enrollment in one of these institutions, apply and getting accepted to the University of Notre Dame or the University of Florida will be looked at favorably
Be living in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
Be graduating high school seniors (U.S., Puerto Rico and Guam), graduating from grade 12 or graduating from home school education in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
Plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2024-25 academic year at an accredited four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States.
After an award is made, for any multi year scholarship the student must submit their college transcript (unofficial is OK) at the end of each year to trigger the release of a payment for the second year. Student must be passing all classes that they attempted, and they must have a 3.0 GPA or better (Some scholarships include stricter standards for renewal).
