Overview

Temporary Emergency Equine Feed Assistance (TEEFA)

Purpose: Provides direct, confidential support to horse owners facing temporary financial hardship to help keep horses fed and families together during tough times.

Program History:

  • Founded 2009 by dedicated MHC member who collected donations in a jar at his business ($400 by early 2009)

  • Partnered with MHC to responsibly distribute funds

  • Annual support from Minnesota Horse Council since 2014
  • Award Type: One-time hay/feed assistance only (confidential, direct vendor payment)

    Geographic Scope: Minnesota residents only

    Award Amount: Up to 100 bales of hay depending on circumstances and availability

    Payment Method: MHC pays feed or hay vendors directly—no cash changes hands with owners

      Eligibility Requirements

      All of the following must be met:
    • Minnesota resident
    • 18 years or older
    • Owner of the equine(s) for which assistance is requested
    • Equine(s) live on applicant's property
    • NOT eligible: Businesses or non-profits (501c3)

      Program Features

    • Confidentiality: 100% confidential
    • One-time assistance: Help for hay assistance one time only
    • No inspections: No outside organizations or inspections required
    • Community-powered: Funded through:
    • - Individual donations - Fundraisers from 4-H, FFA, breed clubs, and equine groups - Annual support from Minnesota Horse Council (since 2014)
