Overview

Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Statewide Alaska

Focus: Community-based efforts to support youth suicide prevention

Background: Building upon the success of a pilot program originally championed by Representative Anna MacKinnon, The Alaska Community Foundation and Alaska Children's Trust partner with the State of Alaska to promote community-based suicide prevention efforts.

Funding: The Alaska Community Foundation matches dollar for dollar the state appropriation for this grant program.

Award Strategy: In 2015, 12 grants totaling $54,699 were awarded across the state to communities including White Mountain, Shaktoolik, Huslia, Elim, Juneau, Cordova, Fairbanks, Sitka, and projects with statewide reach in Mat-Su and Anchorage.

Alignment: Applicants are encouraged to align projects with strategies from the Alaska State Suicide Prevention Plan.

Additional Support: All grantees have the opportunity to participate in Suicide Prevention eLearning courses through the Department of Education.
