Teamsters Local 315 Scholarship

Funder: Teamsters Local 315

Geographic Scope: California (Teamsters Local 315 members)

Purpose: Established in 1993 by membership vote to reward students who are members of Teamsters Local 315 and children (sons, daughters, step-children, or legally adopted children) of Local 315 members.

Award Amount: Five (5) scholarships of $2,000 each

Eligibility

Applicant Categories:

  • High school seniors graduating in June and applying to a two-year or four-year accredited college

  • Currently enrolled full-time (8+ units per quarter) students in community, state, or UC system colleges with strong GPA

  • Sons, daughters, step-children, or legally adopted children of Teamster members

  • Student members of Teamster Local 315
  • Member Requirements:

  • Applicant or Teamster-parent must have been a member in good standing for 12 consecutive months preceding the application deadline

  • Teamster parent must not have been a full-time officer or employee during this 12-month period

  • If retired or deceased, member must have been in good standing for 12 consecutive months before retirement/death

  • If member deposited withdrawal card during preceding 12 months, must have been dues-paying member for 12 consecutive months before withdrawal card

  • If member transferred between Teamster locals, both membership periods added together to obtain required 12 months

  • Sons/daughters of laid-off Teamster members with honorable withdrawal card issued within 3 years preceding deadline are eligible (with specific conditions)
  • Ineligibility Factors:

  • Full-time Teamster officers' and agents' sons or daughters are not eligible

  • Member suspended from Local 315 membership during 12-month period

  • Member secured employment not covered by Teamster contract after layoff

  • Member was full-time officer or employee during 12 consecutive months prior to layoff
  • Selection Criteria

    Recipients selected based on:

  • Scholastic achievement

  • Activities and personal qualifications

  • Financial need

  • Knowledge of organized labor in the U.S.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Application Availability: Applications available May 13th via download or in Local 315 offices (Martinez and Vallejo locations)

    2. Submission Deadline: Must be received by July 26th at 1:00 PM

    3. Required Materials:
    - Completed application form
    - Proof of enrollment in college or acceptance to college for fall enrollment (provided at time of scholarship presentation)

    4. Disbursement: Scholarship checks presented to recipients at a Local 315 meeting in August, upon receipt of proof of college enrollment or acceptance
