Who We Are

Established in 1974, Coastal Community Foundation works to create vibrant communities along South Carolina’s coast by identifying the challenges facing the region and bringing together resources to address them. Coastal Community Foundation is the largest community foundation in South Carolina, managing more than 700 funds established by individuals, families and organizations and awarding tens of millions of dollars in grants and scholarships each year.

Catalyst Grant Program

Since its launch in 2020, the Catalyst Grant program has awarded more than $4.2M to support nonprofits’ large-scale projects addressing community-wide issues through collaborative, equitable and innovative approaches. The grants are available to nonprofits serving Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, or Jasper counties and ensure multi-year funding, often exceeding a hundred thousand dollars per year.

Catalyst Grant proposals are accepted in one of two categories, Community Innovation or Strategic Capacity Building, and are reviewed by a committee of community members who evaluate the proposals, conduct a site visit with follow-up questions and make recommendations to the Foundation.
