SoCalREN Multifamily Program

Status: Active program

Geographic Scope: Southern California region served by SoCalREN partnership with High Sierra Energy Foundation

Overview: A program that provides energy efficiency upgrade incentives and technical assistance for multifamily properties. The program offers two participation pathways: one for Participating Contractors and one for Multifamily Property Owners.

Award Amount: Up to $1,200 per unit for qualifying upgrades at eligible properties

For Participating Contractors

Eligible Trade Areas:

  • HVAC

  • Lighting (interior and exterior)

  • Water heating
  • Benefits for Contractors:

  • Offer customers incentives to offset energy efficiency upgrade costs

  • Increased visibility as a Participating Contractor

  • Expanded customer base with value-added service

  • Increased scope and volume with current services

  • Enhanced technical skills for workforce

  • One-on-one Account Manager support

  • Marketing assistance

  • Technical support from Program's engineering team

  • Access to convenient online training resources
  • For Multifamily Property Owners

    Available Support:

  • Technical Assistance: Energy and green building consultant works to identify cost-effective upgrade measures and connects owners to applicable incentive programs

  • Incentives: Improvement incentives help offset costs of energy conservation measures
  • Upgrade Options:
    1. Comprehensive Common Area Approach: Minimizes contractor and staff interaction with tenants while upgrading common areas
    2. Whole Building Approach: Improves tenant comfort, reduces maintenance costs, and adds property value through full building integrated upgrades

    Eligible Measures:

  • Interior lighting upgrades

  • Exterior lighting upgrades

  • Water heating upgrades

  • Pipe insulation

  • HVAC system improvements

  • Additional measures as determined by property energy analysis
