Overview

SMOFI Mentorship Program

Funder: Southeast Michigan Omega Foundation Incorporated (SMOFI)
Geographic Scope: Southeast Michigan (Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties)
Focus: Youth mentoring programs for male students, grades 6-12

Program Description

SMOFI's mentoring programs connect mentors (people with similar skills and knowledge) with mentees (individuals who need or want those skills) to help them move up in work, skill level, or school performance. Programs help break down barriers and create opportunities for success.

    OMEGA Academy Mentoring Program

    Designed and operated by academicians, the OMEGA Academy provides:
  • Self-esteem seminars to build confidence for life
  • Academic support for students needing assistance
  • Social interaction including face-to-face engagement, social media, and group team building activities

Participants: Services 20+ males each week during the school year
Grade Levels: 6th through 12th grade focus

Program Outcomes

Aligned with the cardinal principles of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.:

Build Manhood – Develop qualities associated with male responsibility

Build Scholarship – Teach importance of academic success, show educational opportunities, improve educational outcomes

Build Perseverance – Stress importance of critical thinking and determination in face of adversity

Build Uplift – Teach importance of giving and supporting others; develop leaders who contribute to community

Funding

In 2025, SMOFI anticipates providing four (4) male mentoring programs with up to $5,000 each, totaling $20,000.
