SHAPE America: Major of the Year Award Grant

The SHAPE America Major of the Year Award recognizes exemplary undergraduate students in health, physical education, recreation, and dance. This prestigious accolade aims to highlight nominees who demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to service within their communities. Faculty members from colleges and universities are encouraged to nominate one outstanding student per major, ensuring that the next generation of health educators is celebrated for their achievements and contributions to the field.

SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators serves as the voice for 200,000+ health and physical education professionals across the United States. The organization’s extensive community includes a diverse membership of health and physical educators, as well as advocates, supporters, and 50+ state affiliate organizations.
Since its founding in 1885, the organization has defined excellence in school-based health education and physical education. For decades, SHAPE America’s National Physical Education Standards have served as the foundation for well-designed physical education programs across the country, just as the SHAPE America National Health Education Standards serve as the foundation for effective skills-based health education. Together, these national standards provide a comprehensive framework for educators to deliver high-quality instruction and make a positive difference in the health and well-being of every preK-12 student.
The SHAPE America Major of the Year award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in the fields of health, physical education, recreation and dance.
Faculty advisors/professors are encouraged to nominate one outstanding student per major per college/university.

Eligibility

Nominees Must:
Be a current SHAPE America member (nominees who are not yet members may still be nominated as long as a membership form is submitted within one month of nomination).
Be on track toward a degree in an HPERD field.
Be a junior or senior.
Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, on a 4.0 scale.
Provide a service to school or community (3-5 contributions) for a minimum of two years during undergraduate career.
You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Nominees who are not yet members may still be nominated as long as a membership form is submitted within one month of nomination.
