Overview

Senior Volunteer Opportunity (Foster Grandparent Program)

Purpose: Enable low-income senior citizens to love, nurture, and educate at-risk and special needs children in school or childcare environments.

Program Type: Nationally-chartered program

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Age: 55 years of age or older
  • Income: Adjusted income less than 200% of federal poverty guidelines
  • Requirements: Enjoy being with children and be in reasonably good health

    Program Benefits

  • Volunteer Hours: 15-40 hours per week
  • Orientation: Program orientation provided
  • Training: Monthly in-service trainings
  • Uniform: Program top with nametag
  • Transportation: Assistance to and from volunteer sites and in-service meetings
  • Meals: Provided during each day worked
  • Insurance: Accident insurance coverage
  • Compensation: Hourly tax exempt stipend

    Services Provided to Children

    Children may receive support to:
  • Improve reading skills
  • Cope with death of a parent or caregiver
  • Assimilate into new communities or schools
  • Improve language skills
  • Share quiet time talking
