SEF Teacher and District Grants

Organization: Summit Educational Foundation (SEF)

Background: Established in 1986 by Summit residents to encourage creativity and innovation in schools through private funding. SEF has awarded over $11.7 million to date. In 2018, SEF was selected as the first "Outstanding Education Foundation" by the New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership.

  • Grants must be consistent with Summit Board of Education objectives

  • Must use district-approved vendors

  • Must include detailed cost information

  • Principal may consult with Director of Curriculum + Instruction, Business Office, District Technology Director (for tech components), or Building & Grounds Director (for facility impacts)
  • Pricing Requirements:

  • All applications must include itemized quote from district-approved vendor

  • If any single item or multiple purchases of same item exceeds $6,600, obtain three itemized quotes

  • Include all shipping and handling costs

  • Do not include tax costs (district is tax-exempt)

  • Lock in pricing for 90 days when possible

  • Amazon orders require prior Business Office approval

    SEF Grant Application Process

    Step 1: Preparation
    1. Thoroughly review SEF application guidelines

    - Contact your building secretary for list of approved vendors
    - If item(s) exceed $6,600, obtain three itemized quotes

    2. Principal may consult with:
    - Director of Curriculum + Instruction
    - Business Office
