Background:

Established in 2021 by Sandra Bothwell's daughters (Lori Renz and Shelly Jung) and her husband, Lawrence "Lefty" Bothwell

Created to honor Sandra's legacy as a nurse and social worker

Sandra Bothwell career history:

- Graduated 1960 from University of Nebraska Hospital – School of Nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), second class to graduate
- Worked in OB Department at University Hospital for 6 months
- Worked as clinical nurse in Superior for 1 year
- 47-year career at Brodstone Healthcare (1961-2008)
- Charge nurse for 22 years
- Director of Social Services and Patient Education (1983)
- Swing Bed Coordinator (1986)
- Certified Social Worker and Certified Activity Director (1987)
- Extensive board and committee service
- Passed away February 7, 2021

Eligibility:

Individuals starting education in healthcare-related field

High school seniors and post-secondary students

Preference for nursing and social work careers

Award Details:

Annual award established as recurring yearly opportunity

As of 2023, this is the third year of the award

One primary recipient per year

Purpose: To support future healthcare professionals and honor Sandra's legacy of service to the community
