Background

Russ Duncan was a remarkable individual who displayed extraordinary strength and kindness. Despite facing his own challenges, he consistently placed the needs of others before his own. He was a loving husband and father to three beautiful children. Throughout a courageous battle against a rare form of thyroid cancer that spanned seven years, Russ exemplified unwavering resilience, inspiring all who knew him. Russ passed away on January 24, 2022.

The Russ Duncan Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Russ Duncan to extend a helping hand to families affected by cancer by offering assistance and encouragement to individuals pursuing their educational goals despite the hardships their families have faced.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL requirements:

  • Have a parent/guardian who has battled cancer or is currently fighting cancer
  • Graduating from a high school in the upper 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Planning to attend an accredited two-year or four-year university, community college, or junior college

    Application Process

    1. Review Eligibility, Guidelines and Deadlines
    - Confirm you meet all eligibility requirements
    - Review scholarship guidelines

    2. Create an Account
    - Select one login email address/password for all submissions
    - Provide the email address of the person applying for the scholarship
    - HCHF will communicate all pertinent information to this email address

    3. Complete the Online Scholarship Application
    - Follow all instructions on the application
    - If experiencing technical difficulties downloading or uploading documents, call the office for instructions
    - Important: Incomplete applications on due date may not be considered

    4. HCHF Review
    - Scholarship application reviewed by HCHF Scholarship Committee
    - Recommendations reviewed by Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation's board of directors

    5. Final Decisions
    - Notification by phone or email if you are awarded the scholarship

    Required Submission Materials

    Applicants will be asked to submit the following:

    • High School Transcript
    • Proof of Enrollment at an accredited two-year or four-year university, community college, or junior college
    • - May be an official letter verifying enrollment - If still awaiting acceptance, may still apply (proof of enrollment required before receiving check)
    • One Letter of Recommendation detailing why you should receive the scholarship
