Robert Rector Scholarship Grant

The Robert Rector Scholarship honors a legacy of education in machining and tool making, founded by Robert Rector, who believed in the power of learning. This scholarship aims to support graduates from Cascade, Cashmere, and Richland High Schools who are pursuing careers in metallurgy. Eligible candidates must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and demonstrate interest in Material Science classes. This initiative encourages young talents to develop essential skills in a high-demand industry.

Robert Rector learned machining and tool making in his family basement as a teenager from his father. During WW2, this interest became a family business and now continues as Western Sintering Co in Richland, WA. Robert believed that education is the way to everyone’s future and he was always ready to share to make learning possible for others. This scholarship fund has been created in Robert’s honor to encourage youth in developing their interests in these most important machining skills. This is a field much in demand in industry and you will be sought after as a skilled tradesperson.

Eligibility

Graduate of Cascade, Cashmere, or Richland High SchoolHas completed or is currently enrolled in Material Science classes during their junior or senior year in High School - including those in, or similar to, the Agriculture Mechanics program at Cashmere High School, the STEM Materials Engineering program at Cascade High school, and the Materials Science Engineering and Metals Technology courses at Richland High SchoolGPA of 2.0 or higherPlanning to attend vocational-technical school, community college, or university in the fall education in metallurgyOR non-traditional student returning to school and planning to attend vocational-technical school, community college, or university in metallurgyRenewal possible
