The RISE Professional program, initiated by DAAD, offers North American, British, and Irish students unique research internships in Germany's science and engineering sectors. Eligible candidates include Master's, Ph.D. students, or RISE Germany alumni, ensuring a diverse and skilled applicant pool. DAAD
DAAD is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. It is a registered association and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships.
DAAD supports the internationalization of German universities, promotes German studies and the German language abroad, assists developing countries in establishing effective universities and advises decision makers on matters of cultural, education and development policy.
RISE Professional – Research Internships in Science and Engineering
There are only few scholarship programs offering a working experience abroad. In order to meet this need, RISE Professional matches North American, British or Irish interns with German companies and with non-university research institution that have a strong reference to industry.
RISE Professional started in 2006 for North American students as a sister program of RISE Germany. One target was to offer RISE Germany alumni the possibility to come back to Germany and to experience research out of university and to do research in a work environment. Our objective remains to promote the exchange of students to Germany in the fields of natural science, engineering and life sciences.
What applicants need to know
You are enrolled as Master or Ph.D. student or a Bachelor who is a RISE Germany- Alumni at a North American, British or Irish university (depending on the internship recent graduates in between degrees are also eligible). Your Major is in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences or physics. You would like to work in a German company for the summer.

Eligibility

To apply for a RISE Professional internship you must: a full-time student enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. program at a North American, British, or Irish university (at the time of the internship) in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Earth Science or Engineering (or a closely related field), OR an undergraduate RISE Germany- Alumni in a relevant field studying at a North American, British or Irish university (at the time of the internship)Applicants must prove their enrolment at the time of the internship.German language requirements depend on the nature of the internship. Some require at least an intermediate level of German language skills while others require none at all.
