Overview

Resilient Power Leadership Initiative (RPLI)

Overview: The RPLI provides $10,000 grants to community-based organizations working to build internal capacity around energy resilience and leadership development. In addition to the grant, CEG provides one-on-one tailored technical assistance to awardees.

Geographic Scope: United States (multiple states), Washington D.C., California, Louisiana, Virginia, and other regions

Focus Areas:

  • Building internal organizational capacity around energy resilience

  • Community leadership development in clean energy

  • Solar+storage workforce training and job creation

  • Resilience hub development

  • Community organizing around resilient power

  • BIPOC-led energy justice initiatives
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • Community-based organizations (CBOs) with strong commitment to BIPOC leadership

  • BIPOC-led organizations

  • Environmental justice organizations

  • Community service providers

  • Organizations serving vulnerable and underserved communities
  • Diversity & Equity Commitment:

  • CEG awarded 100% of RPLI's to BIPOC-led organizations since 2020

  • To date, almost 65% of RPLI awardees are BIPOC-led

  • As of 2022, 17 RPLI's have been awarded total
  • Program Examples (2022 Awardees):

  • Feed the Second Line (New Orleans, LA): Supported community organizer position for solar+storage microgrid exploration and solar job training program

  • United Parents Against Lead & Other Environmental Hazards (UPAL, Petersburg, VA): Funded solar installation training cohort that graduated 20 installers
  • Program Examples (2021 Awardees):

  • Faunteroy Community Enrichment Center (Washington D.C.): Youth development organization focusing on environmental justice and solar energy knowledge building

  • East Yards Communities for Environmental Justice (Los Angeles, CA): Leadership capacity building for communities impacted by industrial pollution and oil/gas refineries

  • Internal capacity building and knowledge development
