David Raft Fellowship

Overview: Fellowship recognizing exceptional PCC students and supporting their continued education in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Status: Active (2025-2026 fellow appointed)

Geographic Scope: North Carolina and South Carolina

Focus Areas: Support for advanced psychoanalytic education and training

Eligibility:

  • Matriculated students in psychoanalytic training programs at PCC

  • Demonstrated commitment to psychoanalytic education and practice

  • Active involvement in PCC community

  • Clinical excellence and intellectual engagement
  • 2025-2026 Raft Fellow:

  • Maggie Powell, MS, CRC, LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Cary NC, works psychodynamically with adults and older adolescents, specializes in treatment-resistant depression, experience with mood disorders, personality disorders, complex trauma, anxiety, psychosis, developmental disorders, matriculated student in psychoanalytic psychotherapy track since 2023)
  • Previous Fellows Include:

  • 2024-2025: Marvice Marcus, PhD, HSP-P (licensed psychologist, consultant, clinical educator/supervisor in Durham NC)

  • 2023-2024: Dioselina Ruiz Godbold, MA, LPC (Venezuelan-American LPC in private practice in Murrells Inlet SC, focuses on psychoanalytic perspectives, psycho-oncology, grief and bereavement)

  • 2022-2023: Kendra A. Surmitis, PhD (licensed clinical mental health counselor in private practice in Chapel Hill NC, matriculated student in adult psychoanalytic training)

  • 2021-2022: Jeffrey Napolitano, PhD (psychologist in private practice in Raleigh, matriculated student in psychoanalytic psychotherapy program)

  • 2020-2021: Rachel Poliquin, MD (psychiatrist in private practice in Durham, faculty at UNC, analytic candidate at PCC)
