The Coordinating Council for Women in History The Coordinating Council for Women in History connects women historians throughout the world from all career stages, supporting students and emerging scholars through prizes, mentoring programs, and workshops. We care and stand for women historians, constantly seeking to listen and ensure their growth and success. Our CCWH community stems from the determination and commitments of time, resources, and services of women historians who come together, and we hope that you will join us in this heart work. Our Goals CCWH seeks to broaden both the organization of women historians and the study of women’s history to represent as fully as possible the diversity of women in the United States and internationally. To accomplish these ends, CCWH will continue to: Strengthen ties between permanent and adjunct faculty, graduate students, secondary and elementary teachers and students, public historians, and the general public.Represent the interests of women in all areas of the historical professionResearch and publicize information on the professional status of women The CCWH offers six awards to help reach its organizational goals. Rachel Fuchs Memorial Award for Excellence in Mentorship and Service to Women/LGBTQ in the Profession The breadth of Rachel’s service to her chosen profession is truly awe-inspiring. Rachel’s abundant scholarship is widely read and she was and is acknowledged as a leader in her field of French History. Yet Rachel was so much more to her students, her peers, and her colleagues at many different institutions and in numerous organizations. Rachel was deeply committed to women’s rights, women’s history and to supporting women in the historical profession. Rachel worked diligently to serve the historical profession as a mentor, a role model, an activist and as a friend. Rachel served as President of the Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association, as President of the French Historical Society, and as co-president of the Coordinating Council for Women in History, 2013-2016. The award will be given at the CCWH Annual Awards Luncheon at the AHA in January of each year. The nominee does not need to be present to accept the award.

Eligibility

Nominees must be outstanding scholars, administrators, teachers or public historians and may be employed in education or related areas such as archives, libraries, historical societies, museums etc.Nominees must have demonstrated mentoring skills, not only in teaching or related work, but in providing networks that enhance the professional growth of other women/LGBTQ scholars and students.Nominees must have demonstrated organizational leadership in groups, organizations, or institutions that impact women/LGBTQ.All nominations must be accompanied by two letters that document each of the above criteria. A biography or CV of the nominee should be included.Two letters of nomination may come from colleagues, former grad students, colleagues and former undergrad students who have been impacted by the person's mentorship and service.Letters should indicate that the nominee has had a range of impact beyond just one person. One letter should speak to the impact of the work in the academy as well as the vastness of the nominee's service. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Nominees must be a member of the CCWH.
