Queer Mobilization Fund

Program Status: Active (4th cohort announced in 2022)

Geographic Scope: US South, with primary focus on North Carolina and neighboring states

Overview: The Queer Mobilization Fund (QMF) supports QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community organizations and organizers working for freedom and liberation in the US South. Founded in 2016 as rapid response fund.

Award Types:

  • Biscuits Grant: $5,000

  • Gravy Grant: $10,000 (invitation-only for previous grantees)

  • Technical Assistance Only Grant: Support without direct funding
  • Program History:

  • Launched in 2016 in response to anti-trans HB2 law in North Carolina

  • Has served 70+ organizations across North Carolina and US South

  • Started with $500 grants, now offers up to $10,000

  • Many grantees became nonprofit leaders and some joined SVA staff
  • Focus Areas:

  • Trans and gender non-conforming liberation

  • BIPOC community power-building

  • LGBTQ rights and advocacy

  • Healing and cultural organizing

  • Community care and mutual aid
  • Support Provided:

  • Direct grants

  • Technical Assistance (TA) for capacity building

  • Access to peer cohort of organizations

  • Support for internal and external capacity strengthening
