Focus Areas: Humanities projects using history, literature, philosophy, and other humanities disciplines to enhance civic life. Projects may include oral histories, museum exhibits, community discussions, workshops, documentary films, and public programming.

Eligibility: Non-profit organizations including museums, libraries, community centers, and universities

Special Initiatives:

• The Vote Project (2020): Special priority funding for projects exploring voting rights in America and the 19th Amendment centennial. Over $150,000 was awarded for this initiative.

Background: Mass Humanities is a non-profit based in Northampton and the state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Since its founding in 1974, the organization has provided millions of dollars in support of thousands of humanities projects across Massachusetts. It receives support from the NEH and the Massachusetts Cultural Council as well as private sources.

3. Grantees may request extensions without penalty
4. Significant programmatic changes can be submitted through online system
