Opportunity Fund Scholarships In Honor of Jean Dawes

Scholarships available to Alta Housing residents with financial support to invest in their future through higher education.

Background: The Opportunity Fund was created in honor of PAH Board Member, Jean Dawes who has been an advocate for affordable housing and the pursuit of higher education for over 40 years. After serving on the PAH Board for over 30 years, Jean stepped down in May 2019 to chair the Alta Housing Advisory Council.

Eligibility

• Age: Must be 22 years or older
• Residency: Must have lived in Alta Housing communities for at least one year
• Academic Status: Must be enrolled or planning to take certificate degree or college level classes (community college or four-year institution)

• Certificate programs
• Community college courses and degrees
• Four-year degree programs
• Career advancement education

Purpose

To help Alta Housing residents advance their careers and pursue housing choices beyond the community.

Application Process

1. Fill out online application for committee review
2. Provide recommendation letters:
   • Minimum of one letter of recommendation required
   • Option to provide one additional letter (up to two total)
   • Mail letters to: Alta Housing Office, 2595 East Bayshore Road, Suite 200, Palo Alto, CA 94303
3. Provide proof of enrollment:
   • Acceptance letter from institution, OR
   • Enrollment form, OR
   • For continuing students seeking future funding: proof of grades
   • Acceptable documentation includes: paper trail of application, copy of application, or registration confirmation
