Opportunity Fund Scholarships In Honor of Jean Dawes

Scholarships available to Alta Housing residents with financial support to invest in their future through higher education.

Geographic Scope: Alta Housing communities (California)

Focus Areas:

• Higher education advancement
• Career advancement
• Certificate programs, community college, or four-year degree programs

Eligibility:

• Must be an Alta Housing resident
• Must be 22 years of age or older
• Must have lived in Alta Housing community for at least one year
• Must be enrolled or planning to take certificate degree or college level classes (community college or four-year school)

Background: The Opportunity Fund was created in honor of PAH Board Member Jean Dawes, who has been an advocate for affordable housing and the pursuit of higher education for over 40 years. After serving on the PAH Board for over 30 years, Jean stepped down in May 2019 to chair the Alta Housing Advisory Council.

Purpose: It is the hope that Alta Housing residents will use these funds to achieve career advancement and with that the ability to pursue other housing choices.

Application Process

1. Fill out an online application for committee review
2. Provide recommendations:
   • At least one recommendation required
   • May provide an additional recommendation (optional)
   • Letters of recommendation should be mailed to: Alta Housing Office, 2595 East Bayshore Road, Suite 200, Palo Alto, CA 94303
3. Provide proof of program or college enrollment:
   • Acceptance letter from program/college
   • Enrollment form
   • For any future funding, proof of grade required
   • Acceptable documentation: paper trail of application, copy of application, or registration documents
