Open Call for Support of Science Events and Gatherings Grant

The Heising-Simons Foundation invites proposals for funding science-related events such as workshops and conferences in fields like astronomy and climate change. The program aims to support basic research, foster connections among stakeholders, and enhance the communication of scientific findings. Events play a crucial role in building community, facilitating networking, and offering mentorship opportunities to underrepresented groups in science, ultimately advancing scientific discourse and collaboration.

The Heising-Simons Foundation’s Science program solicits proposals for support of meetings, workshops, conferences, summer schools, research collaboration gatherings, and other events related to astronomy, cosmology, fundamental physics, and climate change science.
Through its funding, the Science program has three main goals:

• Enable basic scientific research,
• Connect key stakeholders, and
• Communicate scientific results.

Events facilitate connections between attendees; allow for the communication of progress and findings; and push science forward through discussion, collaboration, and shared learning. Communities are built through interaction, and events can provide a vital space to network and encounter diverse perspectives. For those early in their careers or that have identities that are underrepresented in their field, certain events can offer the opportunity to find a mentor or a sense of belonging and scientific identity.

Eligibility

Applicants must submit their proposal through one of the following:a tax-exempt public charity organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code;a Federal, State, or Local government body, agency or instrumentality that is treated as an organization described in Code Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code; ora governmental unit referred to in Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
