Learn About AmeriCorps AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,600 nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community organizations across the country. AmeriCorps members gain valuable service experience and have access to professional development and skill-building opportunities while also earning scholarship dollars to be used toward education or student loan repayment. ServeOhio Administers AmeriCorps in Ohio ServeOhio creates opportunities for individuals to participate in an immersive service experience by partnering with local nonprofits, public agencies, and community organizations to develop high-impact AmeriCorps programs that address the local community's most critical needs in education, economic opportunity, health, and environmental stewardship. Through this unique state-local partnership, ServeOhio is able to address local needs while also providing a valuable service experience for the AmeriCorps member – building skills, increasing employment opportunities, and reducing higher-education debt for thousands of Ohioans. Purpose of AmeriCorps State and National Funding AmeriCorps improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. AmeriCorps brings people together to tackle some of the country’s most pressing challenges through national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps members serve with organizations dedicated to the improvement of communities and those serving. AmeriCorps grants are awarded to eligible organizations that engage AmeriCorps members in evidence-based or evidence-informed interventions to strengthen communities. An AmeriCorps member is a person who does community service through AmeriCorps. Members may receive a living allowance and other benefits. After successful completion of their service, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award they can use to pay for higher education expenses or apply to qualified student loans.Eligibility
