Overview

NYSCF Fellowship Program

Purpose: Support postdoctoral fellows conducting stem cell research at accredited academic or nonprofit institutions.

Geographic Scope: New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut

Focus Areas:

  • Basic, pre-clinical, and/or translational studies in stem cell research

  • Technical development, disease modeling, drug discovery and therapeutics

  • Research using human embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and differentiated cells derived from them

  • Translationally oriented research projects preferred
  • Eligibility:

  • Postdoctoral fellows at accredited academic or nonprofit institutions in NY, NJ, or CT

  • Must begin postdoctoral position by June 1, 2022

  • U.S. citizens, U.S. legal residents, or foreign applicants with appropriate visa documentation eligible

  • Must not be committed at 100% effort to existing fellowships lasting beyond June 1, 2022

  • Candidates can reapply in subsequent years if unsuccessful
  • Award Details:

  • Funding period: Up to 2 years with possibility of 3rd year pending satisfactory progress

  • Funding start date: June 1

  • Does not provide institutional overhead

  • No budget required in application
  • Geographic/Institutional Requirements: Applicants must work under guidance of qualified faculty member at accredited academic or nonprofit institution in NY, NJ, or CT

  • Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight (ESCRO) approval may be required depending on project

    Application Process

    Submission Method: Online grants management system

    Proposal Requirements:

  • 7-page limit (figures included in page count, references not included)

  • Minimum ½ inch margins

  • Minimum 11pt font (Arial or Times New Roman)

  • Figures must be embedded within main proposal

  • Any pages after the 7-page mark will be deleted
  • Required Materials:
    1. Research proposal (7 pages max)
    2. Letter of reference (submitted by reference through online system)
    3. Faculty sponsor mentor plan (submitted by faculty sponsor through online system)
    4. Current and pending support details (sources, project titles, dates, amounts, statuses, major goals)
    5. Response to Previous Review Committee Comments (aim for 1 page, optional if first submission)
    6. Institutional Report Card for Gender Equality (required - completion confirmation needed by deadline)
    7. ESCRO approval status documentation (if project requires ESCRO, or statement if not required)
    8. Faculty sponsor information and contact details

    Letter of Reference and Mentor Plan Submission:

  • Enter reference and faculty sponsor email addresses in online system

  • Use "Compose Email" button to request submission

  • Auto-generated email will be sent to reference/sponsor with instructions and upload link

  • Auto-generated emails come from administrator@grantinterface.com (advise references to add to safe list)

  • Both documents must be submitted by closing date
  • Deadline Requirements:

  • Application must be submitted by RFA closing date and time

  • All supporting letters and documents must be received by RFA closing date

  • Institutional Report Card must be completed by closing date
  • Announcement: RFA announced annually at NYSCF Conference in October
