Nurse Education Scholarship

Funder: Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation (LOHF), operating under Touchstone Foundation

Geographic Scope: Lancaster County, Pennsylvania only

Program Focus:
Supports qualified nursing students pursuing various levels of nursing education, including:

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs
• Registered Nurse (RN) programs
• Bachelor of Science Bridge Programs (RN-BSN)
• Master of Science (MSN) degrees
• Doctor of Nurse Practitioner (DNP) degrees
• PhD nursing programs
• School Nurse Certificates (SNC)

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a resident of Lancaster County
• Demonstrate strong academic performance
• Articulate passion for the nursing profession
• Admitted to or enrolled in nursing education program

Award Information:

• Since 2003, LOHF has provided $633,201+ in scholarships to nursing students
• As of 2016, invested nearly $700,000 in education of 193 nurses
• 2015 investment: $60,000 in nursing student education
• 93% of scholarship recipients have fulfilled program requirements and are working in Lancaster County facilities

Application Process

Required Materials (Checklist):

1. Admission letter from nursing education program
2. Evidence of financial status:
   • Copy of FAFSA form, OR
   • Recent IRS income tax form
3. LOHF financial worksheet
4. Documentation of all grants, scholarships, loans, and employer tuition reimbursement
5. Letter of reference completed by a teacher, supervisor, or other recommender (mailed directly to LOHF)
6. Copy of recent transcript
7. Completion of two one-page essays using prompts provided on application

Submission Method:

• Applications submitted by mail OR email

Selection Process:

• Selection committee consisting of nurses and LOHF staff reviews applications
• Finalists identified for interviews held at LOHF office
• Award recipients notified by mail
• Recipients invited to awards reception
• Initial scholarship payments made to nursing schools

Timeline (2015 example):

• Application deadline: May 29, 2015
• Interviews: July 2015
• Award notifications: July 2015
• Awards reception: September 2015
