Overview

Nonprofit Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT) Grant

Purpose: Fund nonprofit organizations providing equine-assisted therapy to help individuals with physical, mental, and emotional conditions gain confidence and work through the healing process.

Geographic Scope: North Carolina

Eligible Applicants:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations

  • Some grants open to educational institutions and government entities

  • Must be located in North Carolina

  • Must have been operating for at least one year

  • Employee/volunteer instructors and therapists must have appropriate credentials
  • Eligible Use of Funds:

  • Scholarships and financial aid for patients/clients

  • Riding apparel and equipment

  • Equipment necessary for clients to participate in basic horse activities

  • Capital expenditures to improve facilities on nonprofit-owned property

  • New projects or services

  • Riding equipment or adaptive devices

  • Expansion of existing projects or services

  • Research projects related to equine-assisted therapy

  • Physical construction projects necessary for safety of clients and horses
  • Not Eligible For:

  • Day-to-day operating expenses

  • Normal maintenance and upkeep

  • Purchase of animals

  • Year-end awards

  • Improvements to privately owned property (may be negotiable under select circumstances)

    Grant Requirements

    Applicants must submit the following:

    1. Cover Letter
    2. 501(c)(3) certification
    3. Proposal Narrative including:
    - Proposal abstract
    - History of the organization and mission statement
    - Needs assessment and problem statement
    - Goals of the organization
    - Objectives of the proposal
    - Plan of activities (who, what, where, why, when, and how)
    - Past year's accomplishments
    - Qualifications of key staff
    - Accountability and evaluation plan of agency programs and progress
    - Sustainability plan
    4. Budget
    5. Submission of Final Evaluation
