Our Approach to Funding
New Hampshire Children’s Health Foundation concentrates funding in five priority areas and employs both Directed (by invitation only) and Responsive (in response to proposals) grantmaking.
Our Responsive grant awards are made for General Operating Support for the day-to-day work of organizations aligned with one of our other priorities and strategies listed below. Our Responsive grants are made twice each year.
Food Insecurity (Healthy Eating) Priority
New Hampshire Children’s Health Foundation awards grants to support nonprofit organizations, coalitions, and other tax exempt entities that advance our funding priorities and strategies. Our priority populations are children up to age five and their families.
* Priority:
* Reduce food insecurity
* Funding category:
* Responsive
* Strategies:
* Improve participation in federal nutrition assistance programs for children and families.
* Example: This may include identifying and assisting eligible applicants with applying for SNAP, WIC, CACFP or school meal benefits through communication, policy and/or practices.
* Increase availability of and access to affordable, culturally appropriate fresh and local foods for purchase for children and families at risk for food insecurity.
* Example: For this strategy, we are seeking applicant organizations that can promote the purchase of local fruits and vegetables by raising awareness of SNAP Incentive and Incentive locations or by increasing access to available fresh, locally grown food for purchase by low income families with young children.
* Data collection, analysis, planning, or advocacy to:
* Build public support for policies and practices that increase participation in federal nutrition programs or
* Increase access to affordable, culturally appropriate, fresh and local foods.
Funding
Currently, applicants can apply for one year of funding, up to $20,000, to support the day-to-day work of their organization if its work aligns with one of our funding priorities and strategies.
