New Horizons Travel Fellowships The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing offers travel fellowships to offset the cost of attending meetings and conferences. Covers the cost of attending the annual New Horizons in Science briefings for journalists. The maximum reimbursement provided for travel to Science Writers 2023 is $1,200. The briefings will be offered concurrently with the professional development workshops of the National Association of Science Writers as part of Science Writers conferences. New Horizons in Science annual briefings brings together top-ranking scientists and leading science reporters for an in-depth look at seminal developments in science, medicine and technology that are likely to make news in the coming months. New Horizons travel fellowships are intended primarily for reporters from smaller metropolitan print and broadcast news outlets, freelancers, and webcasters with a demonstrated interest in science writing. They are intended to enable reporters to attend the New Horizons in Science sessions produced by CASW (October 22-24). They offer a unique introduction to science reporting that will prove of long-term benefit to the individual and the profession. CASW will, on request, assign a veteran science writer to serve as personal mentor to the fellowship recipient.Eligibility
