New Economy Loan Fund

Overview: The New Economy Loan Fund invests in NYC's growing cooperative economy by making no- and low-interest, flexible loans to support community wealth building initiatives.

Status: Currently accepting applications

Geographic Scope: New York City

Focus Areas:

Worker cooperatives (shared ownership and control of workplaces, living wage jobs)

Community land trusts (permanent affordable housing, resident-controlled development)

Community solar projects and renewable energy infrastructure in frontline communities

Other initiatives that foster democratic ownership and control of land, housing, finance, energy, and other sectors

Democratically controlled initiatives benefiting low-income communities and communities of color

Type: Emerging Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and affiliate of New Economy Project

Impact to Date: Has loaned more than $1.6 million to initiatives promoting economic cooperation and expanding access to living wage jobs, deeply and permanently affordable housing, community and cultural spaces, and other critical needs.

Collaboration: Works with mission-aligned lenders to strategically fill financing gaps and bring more capital into NYC's cooperative ecosystem.
