Established: April 2019 in response to catastrophic flooding across Greater Nebraska in March 2019

Geographic Scope: Greater Nebraska (affected by 2019 floods)

Purpose: Assisting Nebraskans, especially low-income Nebraskans, impacted by the March 2019 flooding to recover and rebuild their lives

Fund Structure:

Challenge grant from Abbott Foundation matching first $500,000 one-to-one

Possible campaign total of $1,000,000

Priority given to those with a desire to remain in their Greater Nebraska communities

Impact Areas: Floods of March 2019 caused profound impacts including:

Damage to homes

Small business damage

Farm and ranch damage

Governmental services including schools, healthcare, and basic infrastructure

Estimated communities continue to feel repercussions up to 9 years following catastrophic flood

Grant Recipients:

Local and regional charitable organizations (501(c)(3) non-profits)

Local political subdivisions

Eligible Uses for Grant Recipients:

Housing

Transportation

Health and wellness (including mental health)

Other forms of individual or community distress

Governance: Fund Advisory Committee overseeing granting decisions

Approach: NCF positioned as a community development organization, not a relief organization, making grants that are high-impact and supportive of sustainable long-term projects and programs
