The NCSS Outstanding Service Award honors NCSS members who have demonstrated exceptional long-term service to the organization and its councils. Awardees will receive a plaque and lifetime membership in NCSS. Eligible individuals must participate in committees, exemplify leadership, and engage in advocacy for social studies. However, recent board members within the last decade are ineligible. This prestigious award highlights the commitment to advancing social studies education.

Overview

The NCSS Outstanding Service Award recognizes and honors one or more NCSS members for outstanding long-term service to NCSS and a local, state, and regional council. Award winners receive a plaque or other appropriate recognition and will be granted lifetime membership in NCSS. Criteria The award is presented to individuals who best meet the following criteria: Are a member of a standing, ad hoc, or other committees; Exemplify distinguished performance as local or state council officer; Manage the planning, organizing, and conducting for the NCSS Annual Conference or other social studies regional, state, and local meetings;Edit journals, newsletters, or other publications;Advocate or defend social studies in public arenas outside the immediate social studies community;Create, organize, or conduct social studies activities, fairs, or other programs; and/orDemonstrate service at all levels, local through national.
